While doing Freelance work, I created a dashboard to visualize and compare a logistics manufacturer’s current headcount data with their company targets. Their challenge was to bring total positions in line with targets while keeping headcount between a 7 and 10% vacancy rate for flexibility (percent of unfilled positions compared to the total position target.)

My analysis uncovered the following

👔  Total positions in the Operations department are significantly unbalanced between countries. Mexico is too high and the US is too low. Suggestion: Focus on hiring or transferring positions to the US (largest gap = Portland) and freeze hiring in Mexico.

👔  There are too many After Market positions budgeted in the US, along with a high Vacancy Rate. Suggestion: Eliminating the bulk of unfilled positions in the US and incentivized hiring for After Market positions in Mexico will help ease this discrepancy.

👔  The US Sales ****team is running well over target. Suggestion: Eliminate unfilled and redundant positions to start. Altering commission structures/contracts next negotiation can encourage further vacancy.

Here are the steps taken to complete this analysis

  1. Transform the Excel doc into a Google Sheets doc
  2. Clean data - both manually and with the help of Julius AI
  3. Map tables in Lucid Charts and identify how tables interact with each other
  4. Connect the data to Tableau and connect the tables
  5. Create several visualizations using calculated fields, reference bands, and hierarchies to ensure intended functionality and accurate metrics
  6. Present the dashboard and receive feedback
  7. Implement feedback, adjust visualizations and dashboard to reflect requests
  8. Submit updated dashboard and publish to Tableau Public
